Three young girls rescued from being trafficked to Kenya

KalimNews, Siliguri, 27 April 2018: Three young girls aged between 19 to 21 trafficked to Kenya were rescued from Bagdogra. Acting upon a tip received from an informant, Tiny Hands India's  Siliguri team intercepted 3 young Nepalese girls at Bagdogra Airport (near Siliguri) yesterday the 26th of April, 2018. All these girls belong to different districts of Nepal - Mahottari, Nuwakot and Udayapur.
Tiny Hands India, which is a Siliguri-based anti-human trafficking NGO currently working in the North Bengal region (districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar) later handed them over to Nepal police.
"A woman (name not known) had come to our village offering jobs abroad and had met us in Kathmandu," said the girls. "She had also met many other girls and women offering them employment opportunities abroad at Kathmandu", they added.
One of the girl said that a friend of her had also applied but was rejected as she was "not pretty enough". These 3 girls were promised jobs at Casinos and Dance Bar in Kenya, but no details were given.
Based on the requirement of being physically attractive, this somehow suggests that they were possibly being trafficked for prostitution. They said that the head of this network is a man known as "Sahu Ji" who operates from Kenya but had visited and met them a few months back in Kathmandu and stays in touch with them through Whatsapp. "Sahu Ji" had wired an amount of NPR 60,000 into the bank account of one of the girl and had arranged for agents to make their passports - which was completed within a span of 5 days only (NPR 10,000 was charged for each passport).
"Sahu Ji" who often speaks in Hindi language, had arranged/paid for all of their flight tickets, car rentals, hotel accommodations, etc. He threatened them by asking them to pay back all the expenses when any one hesitated or seemed to be reluctant in travelling to Kenya.
The trio reached Kakarvitta from Kathmandu and hired a taxi from Kakrvittta to Bagdogra. The taxi driver told us that a lady had come to drop off the women at the airport, who left as soon as the women entered the airport. Upon entering inside the airport, they learned that they had missed their flight and went to search for hotels for their stay, where they were noticed by the informant (identity not disclosed for security purposes) and reported to Tiny Hands India and intercepted.
Later, they were taken to Kakarvitta Police Station and were placed at a Shelter being run by Tiny Hands Nepal, in the evening.
The victims now believe that they were being trafficked for flesh trade and are wanting to file a case agaiinst the traffickers (agents) involved, as well as warn other girls and women about the horrors of human trafficking as they have now been thoroughly educated about it.
